1. Technology Coaches inspire and participate in the development and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive integration of technology to promote excellence and support transformational change throughout the instructional environment.
1a. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students1b. Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels1c. Advocate for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school and district technology plans and guidelines1d. Implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and manage the change process in schools and classrooms

This standard has as its heart the idea that technology coaches can be, and should be, change agents in their spheres of influence. Many of us are in the unique position of being between the end users and the decision makers. At the district level we often have the opportunity to be big picture thinkers, keep up with research, collaborate with colleagues both in and out of the district and be part of the conversations that influence the decisions made about devices, software, professional development and strategic planning around our shared vision. We also are in a position to listen to the teachers and students who are effected by those decisions. We can gather feedback, evaluate processes, provide support and training and help others take ownership of the vision.

It will take both pieces of the puzzle to truly bring “transformational change” to education. The ubiquitousness of technology in our classrooms is challenging teachers to “reinvent our approaches to learning and collaboration, shrink long-standing equity and accessibility gaps, and adapt learning experiences to meet the needs of all learners.” (U.S. Department of Education, 2017) As coaches we can help smooth the way and help find a balance between moving forward and helping people catch up.
